Providing healthy and nutritious meals is an important aspect of our program. Our qualified cook prepares a variety of meals that are nutritionally balanced, tasty and appealing to young children. We believe that healthy eating habits are best established in early childhood, and we aim to provide a positive food environment that encourages children to try new foods and make healthy choices.
Food prep is a beneficial practical life activity, not only does it help children learn self-care through the act of washing their hands, but it also helps to instil a sense of independence as they learn to prepare food. Additionally, it serves as an excellent opportunity to improve fine motor skills as they prepare food, as well as practice grace and courtesy as they offer the food to their friends. It’s an activity that can be enjoyed by children of all ages, and one that can help teach valuable life skills.
Our daily menu includes breakfast, morning tea, cooked lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack. We offer a range of foods from different food groups, such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, grains and proteins, to ensure that children receive a balanced diet. Full cream milk and light milk are served to suit the daily menu, and water is available throughout the day to encourage children to stay hydrated.
We display our weekly menus in every room and have a daily menu board located in the entry, so families can see what their child is eating each day. We are aware that some children have allergies and special dietary requirements, and happily cater this. We also are big supporters of the “Munch & Move” initiative through NSW Health: https://healthykids.nsw.gov.au
